1. The Graduate, 1967

This film is based on the adult fiction novel of the same name. The gentlemen she falls for has a dark secret which leads to a rocky relationship.

The erotica level in this film is arguably not so high, but it does leave one to their own devices by allowing the viewer to use their imagination. 3. Cruel Intentions, 1999

4. Eyes Wide Shut, 1999

Another classic starring Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise,  Eyes Wide Shut is based on the novella Traumnovelle (Dream Story) by Arthur Schnitzler. The film is set in New York the 90's, and follows the life of a sexually-charged adventurer, Dr Bill Harford. As he discovers that his wife had contemplated an affair one year earlier, their relationship transforms, and Dr Harford is left to his own devices. What does he do? Embark on a night-long antic including a masked orgy at a secret society.

Fun fact? This film took 400 days to produce, which put it in the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous film shoot. Another fun fact? Warner Bros. Pictures edited some of the explicit scenes so that it could be rated R for cinemas.

5. Fifty Shades of Grey, 2015

While this film doesn't exactly educate its viewers on the real life ins and outs of a BDSM relationship, it does romanticise it in such a way that those who watch it, yearn for more. In fact, this film (adapted from the book series) prompted people all over the world to embrace their more kinky side, turning the BDSM lifestyle into a more mainstream notion.
